Busy in Preparations

Hostessing my first Open House this Saturday, the 11th, and I've been swamped with all the collateral issues. I'm feeling very, very nervous. My home is clean and decent, but humble in comparison with many of the households here. I happen to live in what is considered to be in the top ten most affluent suburbs in America.

We live in the older part, much more middle-low of the middle class.

The house needs updating. It needs a fresh coat of paint. It needs a lot of things, but then, all these things cost money. Hopefully I'll make some pocket change to help along those lines, but the public is being welcomed into my humble home as it is.

I hope they'll see comfort and contentment. After all, when it came to our decision of what and where to buy, we stayed in our budget. We bought no more of a house than what we could afford in a place where the public schools are excellent.

I hope what they see and appreciate is a family who is not burdening them by being part of a $7 billion dollar "rescue" plan. So no, it ain't fancy, but it ain't costing any American taxpayer a single penny, either.

Having an open house sounds so exciting! Don't worry so much about your house which I'm sure is just fine the way it is. Display your jewelry beautifully because that's what everyone is coming to see. Many wishes for a ton of sales!

Good luck with your first open house--I'm eager to hear how it goes and what you learned from doing it. As far as how people will see your house...well, I guess one never knows, but either way hopefully they'll be focused more on your amazing jewelry than your home's paint work :)

Good luck with the Open House Hilary! I know how you feel, we've stayed 'in budget' as well, and sometimes I look around and feel my home is a bit 'inferior' - but I know that is not truly important and just look what we can make!

I'm sure it will be fine. :) We always look at our things with worse eyes than a typical person. :) We can see what the untrained eye of a visitor won't see. All they will feel is the warm, welcoming, loving atmosphere that they may not even have in their own home. I'm sure just as your jewelry will inspire happiness, your house will as well. :)

Enjoy your open house!!! I'd go if I lived near you. :)

Hugs,

Rayne (Thoughts)

Thank you for commenting on my chainmaille bracelet! Is it really that addicting? This is my first try and I'm loving it! I can't wait to finish it.

And you are right, you do have beautiful chainmaille pieces, and they are not horrendously overpriced!! I am sorry, I didn't see yours before saying that.

I looked in your Etsy shop hoping to see some more of your pieces, but only found one, with a slider on it....do you have more that I could admire?

Your work is stunning!

Big, small or somewhere in between, I'm sure your house is beautiful. If my daughter's softball plans get canceled, I'll email you to get directions!

Don't sweat it. A home is a home. Like you said, it's welcoming and comforting. And sometimes, a sterile house can be warmed up by the people within.

The show will be great.

Good luck. Your home is your castle and someone will see it as their castle too.

That necklace is really pretty.
