"This Town Needs an Enema!"

[Rant mode on]
After dropping off dear daughter at her middle school this morning, I headed home my usual route which takes me to the street on the backside of the school. This street has a driveway leading to the school, one used by the parents of 6th graders to drop them off at their special entrance.

Smack-dab in the middle of the entry to the driveway was someone's pet kitty cat, dead, run over. Not only run over, but flattened like a pancake. The only way a critter gets that flat upon being struck is if multiple people ran over the poor thing.

What on earth is WRONG with some people! I realize that accidents happen, I've had critter-related accidents myself although fortunately never involving someone's beloved pet. But even if this started as an accident, it appears to have ended in something more intentionally cruel.

Is it some sort of sadistic pleasure that people get from running over creatures? Is it a matter that they're not paying attention to the road?? Do people just not CARE about anything anymore? Imagine how upsetting the view has to be for some of the kids getting dropped off at school. I'm grateful my critter-loving daughter gets dropped off at the front entrance. Her day would have been spoiled by seeing the carnage.

The real scary thought is that those who've chosen to flatten the poor creature have reproduced.

Okay, that's off my chest. This morning serves to remind me why I don't let my cats explore the great outdoors.

On a much lighter note, I'll leave y'all with Roady on my neighbor's Jeep getting ready for some suburban surfing:

Stumble It!

What a horrible experience. We have many feral cats that roam our area and I'm surprised we don't see them splattered all over the streets the way people drive around here. I know I get very upset when a rabbit or something darts in front of me and almost wrecked once trying to miss it. Have a good day and I'm so glad you guys are safe. Thanks for the comment on my blog that was very nice.

People can be so inhumane! Hope Roadie doesn't play in the street. Just stopped by to say "hi" via Entrecard.

That's awful! I deliberately straddle the unfortunate creatures that have been hit by other motorists and have been known to throw everything in the floor braking to AVOID hitting one that's trying to cross the road. Oh and let's not discuss how many turtles I've stopped and moved to safety....

It's a sign of how calloused we are getting that we cannot be more empathetic to some unfortunate creature whether domestic or wild that get's in the way of a vehicle.

You have my utmost support in your rant here.

That poor cat. I am glad that my son is now taking the bus so I do not have to deal with morning drop off. Saw a dead cat last year at Elem school. My son started sixth grade this year as well.

Oh my- that is sad!! This post reminds me of the thing I have been saying about my hometown (Topeka, Ks) for a couple of months now:

Never underestimate the apathy of (insert your town's citizens here) Topekans in large groups"

sad, but all too often true!

Is that a real road runner in the photo! I've never seen one in this area, very cool!

That's horrible about the kitty in the drive at school. People don't pay attention and probably didn't even realize what they were doing (at least I HOPE they didn't realize!)

I'm assuming the culprits are people who are distracted or in a hurry. Around here everyone is always on their cell phone, even dropping off and picking up at the school, which technically requires even more focus and caution since the middle school kids are always darting out in to traffic without a second glance. What a shame.

Oh how sad. I really dislike it when my children see it. I know if my heart breaks over it I can only imagine how they feel. People are always so busy these days. We all need to slow down in life.

I don't like seeing that either. When a cat was hit in front of my driveway I immediately called waste disposal to clean it up. I can't stand to see flattened creatures!
